The
purpose of this paper is to help people to have a good relationship
with God in regard to their marriage relationship here on this
earth. In the first part of this paper, I also deal with
what a person has to do to be saved. These are important
and serious subjects, that have eternal consequences. This
paper seems long and may even at times be confusing, but it is
not the truth that is confusing. The truth is plain and
simple, it is the error taught on marriage, divorce, and remarriage
(MDR) that is confusing. This error is taught for various
reasons – emotional reasons, personal reasons, and popularity
reasons, to name a few, but ultimately the basis for this error
is Satan.
Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage.
Marriage was instituted by God and is
honorable in His sight. It is a covenant between the man,
the woman, and God. The bond of marriage is to be so tight
that God would say they become “one flesh.”
Divorce is hated by God. God hates
it in part because it is the breaking of a covenant or promise.
No divorce is what God wants, but God accepts divorce when
one partner in the marriage is unfaithful to the other.
Remarriage is allowed by God, for only
two reasons. One is the death of one’s spouse, which
fulfills the covenant between that husband and wife. The
other is following a divorce based on unfaithfulness of one’s
spouse.
Those three points sum up the teaching
of God on the topic of MDR. The next pages get down to
the application of these teachings. As you go into this
study, clear your mind of how you “want” things to
be, and determine to accept things the way that God has established
things.
If, after you have concluded this
study, you realize you are in an adulterous marriage relationship,
then you must end that relationship to be acceptable to God.
If you really love the one you are unscripturally married
to, if you really love your children, if you really love
your family, if you really love the church, if you really
love the Holy Spirit,
if you really love the Lord, if you really
love the Father, if you
really love
yourself, and if you really love your soul, you will repent of this adultery.
And the ONLY way to repent of it is to end the relationship.
Satan will offer you “false love” for each one
of these to stay in the adulterous relationship, but God’s
way is truly best, not only here and now but eternally as well.
