I. Why object to being sent?
A. Fear of failure
1. Im
a nobody of no importance.
Exodus
3:11 Who am
I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel
out of Egypt?
2. I dont
have all the answers.
Exodus
3:13 ... and
they say to me, `What is His name? what shall I say to them?
3. I cant
handle rejection.
Exodus
4:1 But suppose
they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, `The Lord
has not appeared to you.
4. Im
not a good talker.
Exodus
4:10 O my Lord,
I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant;
but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.
B. Fear of success
1. Please
send somebody else, anyway.
Ex.
4:13 O my Lord,
please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.
2. Moses was
convinced he was a failure, and didnt want to change his mind
a.
trained to make a difference as pharaoh, but no longer in line to be pharaoh
b.
had trouble using Egyptian position to help Hebrews
c.
had trouble using Hebrew position to help Hebrews
d.
self-convinced he was not a leader (no servants with while he tends sheep)
e.
accustomed to not being a leader (father-in-law seems to be the family
leader)
f.
perhaps no longer desired the responsibility of success
3. Compare to
Jonah who knew he would succeed, but didnt want the outcome
C. God gets angry with those who object from
fear.
