Food for Thought
Working with what you have
by David Churchill

These pictures capture the results of some creatively applied talents.  Why would anybody spend so much time, effort, and probably even money to make such thought-provoking sculptures that would be soon washed away with the next high tide?

Perhaps they liked difficult challenges and unusual goals.  Maybe they tried to show off what they could do and to flaunt their artistry using an unlikely medium.
Perhaps they wanted to provoke a reaction from people passing by.  Maybe they thought favorable images of Christ would be controversial enough to attract either praise or hostility.
Perhaps they had too much time on their hands and nothing else better to do.  Maybe they demonstrated their boredom or frustration through religious symbols.
Perhaps the real answer is more straightforward.  Maybe these people were only trying to point others to Jesus using what skills and materials they had on hand in a time and place that others would pay attention.
Perhaps you should take more time to share with others how you feel about Jesus.  Maybe, if someone working with simple wet sand can point others to Jesus, then you can work with what you have and point others to Jesus, too.
