The human eye is a good example of complexity and almost unfathomable design and corresponding function in our world.  The image of an apple enters the eye’s lense which strikes the optic nerve, and in-turn sends an electrical signal to the brain at which moment the brain acknowledges “I see an apple.”  And this is done in color, not black and white.  Is this mere happenstance (came into being by itself) or by design?  We could examine the design, structure, and function of each muscle, bone, organ, and system of the human body and would logically conclude that the human body is complex and well designed, thus implying a designer – a designer of incomprehensible intelligence.  However, the eye is elementary in comparison to DNA – the chemical discovered in 1944 in which genetic information is coded.  DNA is the molecule of heredity!

The more scientists investigate human genetics, the greater the revelation of genetic complexity and intricate design.  In 1941 Beadle and Tatum proposed that each gene carries the code for making one, and only one, protein.  But how a gene leads to the production of a protein was still a mystery.  In the 1960s an important related discovery revealed that proteins are not made directly from DNA.  Instead, there is an intermediate called RNA that is a close chemical cousin of DNA.  The DNA sequence is first encoded in an RNA sequence, and then the RNA sequence is used to actually make the protein. Mere chance??

The complexity of the human race’s genetic makeup, is emphasized by the amount of space necessary to store the genetic information of just one human being – 750 megabytes on a computer hard disk.  This complexity is further emphasized in the recent declaration that human DNA consists of three billion letters of genetic alphabet in order to make a human being which averages 100 trillion cells.  Equally intriguing, there is only 1% difference in the DNA code between any two persons.

The more that is discovered about DNA, the more conclusive that a supremely intelligent designer-creator was necessary to make DNA.  In fact the discovery of DNA has caused many evolutionist scientists to conclude that the theory of organic evolution — that life came from non-life by itself is impossible.  The Psalmist declared of the God of heaven “
For You have formed my inward parts; you have woven me in my mother’s womb.  I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works….  My bones were not hidden from you, when I was made in secret…  Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed,” (Old Testament, Psalms 139:13-16).  Chance or marvelous and deliberate design?
