A lamb, THE lamb, YOUR lamb
by George Sinkie

Prior to the giving of the Old Law, while the children of Israel were still in Egyptian bondage, God was preparing to bring the tenth and final plague upon Egypt.  This plague was going to be the death of the first born throughout the whole land.  In order for Israel to be spared from this plague, God gave the instructions concerning the sacrifice they were to offer.  The focal point of this sacrifice was the offering of the Passover lamb.  Listen to God’s instruction found in Exodus 12:3-5, “...‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.  ...according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.  Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.’

Did you notice the progression there?  It went from “
a lamb” to “the lamb” to “your lamb.”  “A lamb” was any one of the lambs out in the flock.  “The lamb” became the specific lamb that they picked.  But then it became “your lamb” as the personal sacrifice that was going to spare their firstborn.

Paul, in 1 Corinthians 5:7, says that Christ is “
our Passover.”  The Old Testament announced over and over that “a Savior” was coming.  When Jesus came and died on the Cross, He became “the Savior” of the world.  But you need to take Him as “your Savior” if you want to be spared from eternal death.  If you want Him to be “your Savior” then you must obey Him.  Hebrews 5:8-9 says, “Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.  And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation...
