The Bible declares a fundamental
about God Righteousness
and justice are the foundation of Your throne.... (Psalm 89:14). The
Psalmist also wrote of the possibility of the foundation being
destroyed If
the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalm 11:3). In
that context who are the righteous? Any rational person
wants to be righteous. Unfortunately, our flaw is to be
self righteous, i.e., folks create their own righteousness,
e.g., folks convicted of heinous crimes, remark, I am basically
a good person.... So how can you know the certainty that
you are righteous? Moses declared, For all His ways are
justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and
upright is He (Deuteronomy
32:4). So God Himself is righteous and truth.
Although many declare there is
no absolute truth, Jesus of Nazareth, (God in flesh), declared
He is truth (John 14:6). Truth
is mentioned over 200 times in the Bible. Perhaps one of
the best descriptions of God is His own declaration of His own
character to Moses, The
Lord (YHWH Yahweh), the Lord God, merciful
and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and
truth (Exodus
34:6). Yes, He is truth! With such declaration,
it seems everyone would want to know God, to know truth so as
to become righteous.
As recently noted, in 2018 a PEW
poll revealed 28% do not believe any supernatural deity exists.
Do you believe Yahweh (author of the Bible) exists? And
if so, How do you know God exists? And of
those who say they know God, many, if not most, have concocted
an image of God from their own imagination. As one fellow
told me, the supreme being is an energy force in space, like
magnetism or solar energy. That is pure Naturalism.
The Bible declares God to be a
spirit person (John 4:24). That we are made (in
flesh) in His image (Genesis 1:26-27), implicitly informs
that we have the rational trait of God the capacity to
think, to know, to decide what to believe and do.
Acknowledging His existence is
the beginning of knowing He is the Sovereign, who establishes
what is real righteousness. In order for you to be righteous,
you must fully accept that He is righteous, that He is the standard
of what it means to be righteous. Understanding and accepting
that precedes the beginning of restoring the foundation of the
failing nation so as to become a righteous nation. Righteousness exalts
a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).
Can we know God exists? How?
